If I’d had more time, I’d have bribed Patricia at Solo Bace in Toronto for a longer head massage. Genius way to start the day, on a Monday especially. Even better when the head massage is the start of a free wash and blowdry, makeup touch-up, a remember-this-day snapshot and a little sample bag to go, courtesy of Schwarzkopf Professional and a Toronto-centric event called Essensity and the City to promote Essensity hair care.
Essensity is a reduced-synthetics collection of salon shampoos, conditioners, stylers and professional colour. Ingredients include natural and organic plant-derived extracts, and exclude artificial fragrances, silicones, paraffin, mineral oils and parabens. The lineup ranges in price from about $18 to $25 CAN, and includes a fragrance-free shampoo for sensitive scalps. On the pro-colour side, Essensity formulas have less chemical content than most and offer about 75 to 90 percent grey coverage depending on which colourist you ask and how much resistant grey you have.
Post wash/head massage from Patricia, who used Essensity’s Moisturizing Shampoo and Hydrating Paste conditioner, then an excellent blowdry from Sevda, my hair feels clean, healthy, hydrated and swingy. (I keep taking stroke-my-hair breaks while I type. Oops.) I feel zero product residue in my hair; Sevda used just a touch of Volumising Pudding at the roots, and Smoothing Cream on the ends.
If you want to experience the complimentary Essensity and the City pampering yourself, five Toronto locations are offering specific dates and times in August, September and October:
August 10 & September 21 Vandertol Salon & Spa, 2156 Yonge St.
August 17 & October 5 Tony Chaar Salon, 11 Hazelton Ave.
August 24 and September 28 Enrico Salon & Spa, 468 Eglinton Ave. W.
August 31 & October 26 Afif’s Salon Hair and Beauty, 2485 Yonge St.
September 14 & October 19 Solo Bace, 860 Yonge St.
Hop onto essensityandthecity.ca to register.
Staff thinks that because this is a Toronto event and Toronto is in Canada it should count for July’s made-in-Canada theme on BeautyGeeks. I’m not so sure, but right now I’m inclined to go along with it. She can thank Patricia.

Boo! I’m sad I couldn’t make it to this… sounds amazing!
BTW – LOVE the pic you used for this post. Who is the artiste???
(I’m obsessed with cutesy fashion illustrations. I blame Fashion Plates.)
It was a nice way to start a week, definitely!
I swiped the illustration from the Essensity and the City website. She was part of a group of four characters I “edited down.” Realized after I published the post that she co-ordinates nicely with the site! I didn’t look for an artist credit, but I wonder if it’s the same person who used to do illustrations for Chantel when she was first at Elevate? If it is, she’s also done campaigns for Aldo and others, I think. Now I’ll have to check!
And no boo — you can still try the experience if one of the event days (there are lots) works for you. It’s complimentary after all, and you can take a friend!
She DOES coordinate nicely!
Must try the hair thing. You had me at the first mention of “organic”… :-)
Have to say again, EXCELLENT blow out. Although Sevda used very little product, right up until now, 11:20 pm on day two, my ‘do stayed frizz free and lost none of its swing. Me likey!
