Guest Post: BeautyEditor.ca Picks Some Revolution Organics

by Janine on 8 July 2009 · 6 comments

My friend Michelle, former beauty editor at Elle Canada Magazine, current freelance writer and the woman behind the new beauty blog BeautyEditor.ca, has a thing for natural and organic beauty. Here she declares love for Canadian brand Revolution Organics, which of course I now want to try, especially the 22-uses All-Over Balm. And Beauty Balms. And Freedom Glosses. Darnit, Michelle’s adding to my to-do list!

RevolutionOrganicsFreedomGlowBalmIf you’re wondering why most of my editor’s picks are organic, I’ll forgive you—it’s just because I continue to be impressed by brands that are coming out with stuff that’s both safe to use AND makes you look great. The era of impractical, sub-standard organic products is definitely over. (So please, mainstream beauty brands, get with the program!)

This new makeup and skincare line is one of my new favourites. (It’s available, along with David Babaii for WildAid, at The Shopping Channel—a place I never used to associate with cutting-edge beauty products, but which I’ve noticed is quickly becoming a destination for some mighty desirable organic brands.)

And why, exactly, am I loving it? Because it’s safe—and simple. Everything is free of chemicals, parabens, synthetics and artificial ingredients. The company doesn’t use any fillers (like water), so you actually get more of the concentrated, healthy organic ingredients (and end up having to use less). The skincare range includes a Skin Crème, All-Over Body Balm (which has 22 different uses—wow!) and a Lip Therapy Balm, all of which are food-grade and USDA certified organic.

But it’s the colour products (made from 100 percent natural and 85 percent certified organic ingredients) that I’m most impressed by.

I’ve just made room in my makeup bag for the Freedom Glow Beauty Balms (pictured above), which are multi-tasking tubes that you can swipe over cheeks, lips, eyelids or even your décolletage for super-sheer, dewy colour. They’re perfectly portable and available in three shades: Blushed (looks scarily fuchsia in the tube but goes on a pretty pink), Sunkissed (NARS Orgasm-esque peach) and Bronzed (which imparts a natural-looking tanned glow even on my very fair skin).

RevolutionOrganicsFreedomGlossI also love the Freedom Glosses, especially Freedom, a strawberry red. (Dare I say it—they might be just as long-lasting and moisturizing as my current favourite by Josie Maran?)

One more reason to check out this line: it’s Canadian. Founders (and Ottawa natives) Melissa Shabinsky and Alexandra Zanella previously worked on brands like Dessert Beauty and Lip Fusion—and then decided to launch Revolution Organics, which was born out of their desire for simplified, multi-tasking organic beauty products. Here they are:

Priced from $22. Available at The Shopping Channel or call 1-888-2020-888.

Thanks for this, you! I’m just realizing the organic thing really is becoming an obsession. Was in Whole Foods yesterday and discovered another whole world of products. Forget Shoppers – that’s my new frontier!!

I just got these in, and the Beauty Balm in “Blushed” looks amazing! The glosses have too much iridescence for my taste, though.

Becoming an obsession? I tagged your natural/organic interest as an obsession more than a year ago. *grin*
