Make Waves: Pretty, Wavy Hair-Styling Tips from Pantene for New Year's Eve

by Janine on 31 December 2008 · 7 comments

Okay, so I don’t have a ’do like this either, but one day I might. Just have to let it grow some and get bangs cut, and then for New Year’s Eve ’09 I can follow these easy steps from Pantene consulting stylist Justin German. However, if you’ve got shoulder-length or longer tresses, bangs or not, you can try these moves for New Year’s 2008 — tonight.

~ Wash and condition hair with a volumizing shampoo if you have straight hair, or smoothing shampoo if your hair is all thick, wavy frizz. Here Justin German, also a co-owner of Shagg Salon in Toronto, suggests Pantene Pro-V Sheer Volume Shampoo and Conditioner for a body-and-fullness boost.
~ Work mousse into hair at the roots. German suggests Pantene Pro-V Sheer Volume Mousse to minimize heat-styling damage as well as add volume.
~ Use a medium round brush to help smooth hair as you blow dry, and always direct air flow toward the ends to avoid frizzing the cuticle.

Step 2

~ Lift one- to two-inch sections of hair straight up from your head and wrap around large velcro rollers.
~ Once all rollers are in, mist hair with a flexible-hold hairspray — German’s choice here is Pantene Pro-V Sheer Volume aerosol hairspray.
~ Set hair with cool, medium-speed blasts of air from your blow dryer.

Step 3

~ Gently unwind rollers from hair and run fingers through to loosen up and separate the curls.
~ Give style a final all-over spritz of hairspray for extra hold.

Now don’t worry your pretty head about anything more than enjoying your fine self into the wee hours of next year. All the best for 2009, everyone!

Pantene Pro-V Sheer Volume is available at mass retailers and drugstores.

Makes me think of letting my hair grow out — not that I’d need rollers. I get nice curls when it’s long! Hmmm… *thinking seriously*

I’m going to try this ‘do with some volumizing hair products and let you know how it turns out! I have to find the curlers first – I know they have the small ones at Shoppers Drug Mart. Do you figure mini rollers would have the same effect?

Too wee and you’ll end up looking like Shirley Temple — cute, but not, I think, what you want! The next size down from the ones in the photo might be best for your length, actually. A beauty supply place, perhaps Trade Secrets or something like that, might have a better size range. I’m on the hunt myself!

Cool. There are a couple of beauty supply depots in ChinaTown. Will check ‘em out. Thanks!

Turns out Goody makes velcro-style rollers in four sizes; $3.99 CAN per package. At drug and grocery stores as well as mass retailers.
