Canadians have seen the print and tv ads featuring Canadian supermodel Linda Evangelista for L’Oréal Paris Double Extend Beauty Tubes Mascara, but have to wait until January 2009 for the mascara to hit the stores. Or not — subscribe to Beautygeeks then enter to be one of five lucky winners to get her hands on one before the new year! (If you’re already a subscriber, thanks! and of course you can enter by e.mailing imabeautygeek@gmail.com too.) Winners will be selected at random on Friday October 31 and notified by e.mail. Apologies again to international readers — I’ll make it up to you — this one is for Canadian residents only.
Double Extend Beauty Tubes Mascara ($14.95 CAN) builds on the lengthening primer base + mascara L’Oréal launched several years back with their original Double Extend. The difference here is a more conditioning primer plus a water-resistant gel-polymer mascara formula that resists smearing, smudging and flaking, yet slides off your lashes like litle tubes when you use warm water.
While I haven’t tried it yet — am still testing another — I’ve noticed on other people that one needs to be thorough when applying the mascara coat, or the white primer shows through.
Eddie Maleterre, official makeup artist for L’Oréal Paris and artistic director for L’Oréal Fashion Week, has declared Double Extend Beauty Tubes Mascara his favourite new product and the official mascara of the week. Here’s Beauty Tubes in action in a video lesson from Eddie on the sultry, smokey eye he did for the Mango runway show at L’Oréal Fashion Week on October 20:

This mascara is pretty decent! However now I’m back in M’sia where hot running water isn’t readily available removing it is a bit of a chore. So I’m saving it for days when I need more drama, or for wild nights (which hasn’t happened YET! Darn un-fun country)
I’ve tried it only twice so far, and have found in terms of wear, it’s similar to my fave Clinique Lash Power. Even looks the same when it comes off. I use eye makeup remover, though, because water won’t take eyeshadow and waterproof liner off!
