A Touch of Green (Eye Shadow): Chanel Lumières Facettes in Oasis

I’m not so different from most women, despite the amount of makeup at my disposal. I have my favourites, my 4-subway-stop makeup routine (that’s concealer, powder, liner, mascara, brows, blush and lip gloss). I also favour quite a natural look — you might have noticed in the photos I keep posting (hey, I’m the only face available to me at all hours that doesn’t mind hanging around through 453 shots until I get a good one). But this summer, I’ve added a little green to my repertoire. And it still looks natural, natch.

My new favourite green is one of the colours in Chanel’s limited edition Lumières Facettes silky iridescent eye shadow quad in Oasis ($60). The whole compact is lovely and so easy to wear for every eye colour and every age; I’m just obsessed with the pretty greeny-gold shade, which brightens my brown eyes. A light application looks fresh with lots of mascara (and waterproof brown liner on the inner rim of my upper lid, at the base of my lashes to make them look thicker). And a more intense layer is fun with a flick of winged black liquid liner and black mascara. Plus, when I wink, it gives Clive-O the green light.

Chanel cosmetics are available at major department stores; check out www.chanel.com for instructive makeup application videos.

Thanks, Nikki *grin*. I’m adjusting to the size of my face here — my cousin told me to make my pics bigger!

It’s lovely. I’ve actually been looking for a golden green. What are you wearing for a base shadow?

Thanks, D :-) No base shadow; I’m good with a healthy layer of M.A.C pressed powder. If creasing comes too quickly to whatever you wear on your lids, you might like M.A.C Prep + Prime Eye or M.A.C Paint in Base Light.

ooooh. Love the sparkles. I wish I could wear golden green but the red hair it gives me the queasy look. Hmmm. But I totally want some shimmer now. Just what I need- an excuse to go shopping. :)

Shopping is therapy… I absolutely support that theory! Actually, if your colouring is as I imagine it (*grin*), I bet Cargo’s Eye Shadow Duo in Sausalito, a soft pinky-beige/plummy copper combo, would be beautiful on you. Don’t be afraid of the pinky-beige — it’ll surprise you, in a good way. Also, Stila eye shadow in Kitten. If you want to play, think about Cargo’s Eye Shimmer Collection. The white is perfect for that wee highlight in the inner corners of your eyes, and the others are fun as liner or a hint of WOW (yes, you can have a HINT of wow) as a dab in the centre of your lid, over a neutral shadow. Or you might like just the Cargo EyeLighter in White — again, for the inner corners and a little dab on the centre of the lid and sparingly on your brow bone.

what color eye shdow works best for making blue eyes really pop?

Hi Malorie,

Thanks for your question. It sounds boring, but brown eye shadow makes blue eyes look intense. So does bronze and copper. Deep purple, deep plum, navy blue and dark grey are also good options. Blue-eyed folks are so lucky!

Love this look on you! And the colour look so pretty on you!

I was given this e/s compact recently but aren’t really inspired as to how to wear these colour together, if you don’t mind, would love to hear some suggestions or posts on this. =D

Gene, I apologize! I went looking for the palette when I got your e.mail so I could play some and give you some suggestions — and I still haven’t figured out where I put it. *gulp*
