As soon as I find out someone has oily skin (yes, I do that quite often), I tell her she needs M.A.C Blot Powder pressed powder. Oh goodness, I just realized that’s exactly what happens. I don’t ask whether she uses it, I tell her she must. Well so she should. Men, too.
I have oily skin. M.A.C Blot Powder/Pressed ($25 CAN/$21 US) is something I use faithfully — won’t leave home without it. With just a little concealer to hide shadows and redness first, Blot Powder makes my complexion look near flawless without looking like I’m wearing makeup (I’m wearing it in this photo). Formulated with very little colour, the powder is weightless, almost without texture
on skin, and never becomes a cakey mess, no matter how many times I touch up. In fact, these days I’m a tad lazy with touch ups, but it’s all right. With Blot Powder, my skin stays matte for ages then gets dewy rather than oil-slick shiny. It also feels fresher for longer. Without Blot Powder, in about an hour my skin starts to feel as though it’s been Saran wrapped. Ick. And ick!
Every makeup client I’ve had knows how much I love M.A.C Lip Conditioner ($15 CAN/$12.50 US). And pretty much without fail, each client says, “oh, this feels and smells really good, what is it?” And a few minutes later, every client’s lips look lush and healthy (must be all that almond oil, shea butter, avocado extract, wheat germ oil, and Vitamins A and E), ready for a smooth application of lip colour.
This summer, Tendertones Lip Balm SPF 12 ($17.50 CAN/$14.50
US) has also caught my attention. It glides on with a silky texture and a light fruity flavour. Delicious colours range from nude to soft to bright and leave a sexy sheen. Many shades are limited editions; get ’em while you can.
And yes, M.A.C is U.S. owned. But it was made in Canada. (I checked with my staff. She agrees it fits the made-in-Canada theme, so there.)
M.A.C Cosmetics are available at M.A.C industry boutiques, select department stores and at www.maccosmetics.com.

Good call - I can’t live without those two either. I have the balm in a tub and a tube, plus tinted. :)

I have the Lip Conditioner SPF 15 in a little pot, too, of course. And I have the StudioTech foundations in my kit — I love that I can get sheer to almost full-coverage with those and the finish looks so natural. And Blot Powder/Loose, too. Sheesh. I could go on…

Hey Janine, I should hate you, but you write too well! You’ve revived my buried longings for Mac Blot. Just when I’d just about convinced myself that it’s too pricey and isn’t all that great. Boo. Now I wants it again.
Anyhow, am in love with your blog and its philosophy (being a beauty geek meself). And I’ve added you to my blog roll. Please do check out my beauty site and if you like us (as much as we like you), would be great if you could add us to yours. ; )

Thanks for the comment, Kahani. Flattery will get you everywhere!
Popped by So Loverly and had to post a comment re: your Benetint/Body Shop comparison! I like them both as well. The Body Shop Lip/Cheek Stain is great for portability. Benetint will likely last far longer, though, because it’ll take ages to go through that much stain (12.5 mL/0.42 fl oz vs 8 mL/0.2 fl oz). A more portable and wallet-friendly version of Benetint would be the Benetint Pocket-Pal, which has the tint on one end and clear gloss on the other.
I love options!

I’m torn between buying a fullsized Posietint because I fell in love with it after a Benefit Makeover - the point where I dream about it. And getting Justine Case - to try everything! =)
Why can’t Benefit release a mini duo of both shades? I’d loooove that.

I bet a Posietint Pocket-Pal is in the works for an upcoming season — it’s a smash hit for Benefit!

I use MAC Studio finish inNW25, then MAC Mineralized Skinfinish in Medium Plus to finish my natural face (I’m a guy so it has to be natural and unnoticeable)
I have acne prone skin, and do get oily and shiny after 2 hours of applying my made up face.
Question: Will applying the MAC blot powder as a finish with the Mineralized Skinfinish work, and not be heavy?
And which is better for the skin, and preventive of acne breakouts???
Thanks for the help and the review!

Hi Macky! Confession: I have acne-prone skin, too, and what sets it off is too little sleep and too much sugar. I’m dealing with an horrendous breakout right now. ARGH! But that’s me.
For you, we need to talk about skincare. Are you using products with glycolic or salicylic acid? Do you moisturize with an oil-free formula before makeup? And what’s the texture of your skin like? Do you regularly have to deal with noticeable breakouts of more than two or three spoilers?

Hey Janine, Thanks for the reply!
At the moment, I’ve just recently switched and been using Clinique skin care and acne solutions and its working great and has made a huge difference in my skin! Yes they include Salicylic acid too.
For moisturizing, I use the Clinique clearing moisturizer w/c is oil free and is an Benzoyle Peroxide lotion. My skin texture isn’t dry or cracked at all since i started using Clinique. As for the breakouts, when they’re very minimal now, and mostly just one bump here and there.
Im just afraid to jump onto the Mac blot powder and realize my skin cant handle all these powders despite them being very light. So far it is fine with the concealer and the skinfinish.
Thanks!

Okey doke. Skinfinish is a more emolliant powder than Blot, and delivers more coverage. Because your skin is in good shape right now, you can likely get away with just concealer and Blot Powder/Pressed, which will diffuse light slightly even though it’s matte (it’s what powder does).
Blot is lighter than Skinfinish, with less pigment and less texture — I think it’s unlikely it’ll cause a breakout. In my case, with these annoying spots, I use a touch of concealer to minimize them and wear only Blot Powder, as in the photo in this post. And no-one can tell I have powder on at all. That’s a finish that, cuz you’re a fella, would be great for you :-)

I feel the same as Kahani. I use to use MAC Blot Powder and for some reason, I stopped using it. But now I want to run out a buy it! I recently tried the Benefit version of the blot powder and was disappointed. It was too heavy and not seamless like the MAC Blot Powder - can you tell I’m ready to run to the store right now!
My t-zone gets totally shiny n oily. I am addicted to the Clean & Clear Blotting Papers (I also found the Japanese version at T&T). I feel a lil’ like I’m killing the earth though cause I go through so many during the summer.

I’m not kidding about the saran-wrapped feeling my skin has on days I don’t wear Blot Powder. Once I put Blot Powder on, I’ll go for hours without a touch up even if my skin gets shiny because just the one application makes my skin so much more comfortable for so long.
