Juno Award-winning singer Jully Black has a great face and a fierce physique. Some powerful voice, too. But damn. She needs to know her eyebrows are WAY. TOO. THIN. They’re a nice shape in this publicity shot (I couldn’t bring myself to choose a less flattering photo), but still a bit thin. In her TV appearances and on her “Until I Stay” video they look thinner, out of proportion with her face. Too-thin brows make a girl look older and severe. Thicker brows would soften her bone structure and make her look younger. I’m just saying.
I don’t really trust brow-specific powders or kits; the shades aren’t always right for the hair colour they say they are. I usually use eye shadow and a Smashbox Angle Brow Brush, $28, to create the effect I want (if I need to fake hair, I’ll bust out a M.A.C Eye Brows pencil, $16.50). I’ll have to look into the latest brow products and would have liked to have done so before this post, but I just couldn’t stay silent any longer. Jully Black is everywhere; her brows should be with her.
And that, folks, is a bit of a beauty frown. Frankly I’m not sure about beauty frowns — like most people, I’d rather smile. Perhaps I’ll finish by saying Jully Black’s cheekbones are amazing. They are!
I feel better now. You?
Smashbox is available at Shoppers Drug Mart Beauty Boutiques, Sephora and www.sephora.com. M.A.C is available at select Bay stores, M.A.C Boutiques and www.maccosmetics.com.

Before checking out for the weekend, I just had to say thanks for a fun week of postings!!! I always look forward to your next entry. :)
You are awesome. Thanks so much for the loveliest compliment EVER. xoxo
Janine! Great advice always and am loving the info. Keep it coming! Since we are on the topic of eyebrows here, big question: Where can one get tweezers sharpened? I have 2 pairs and they are both dull. I know you can mail them off but that seems expensive and excessive. Canada’s major cities must have places that do this kind of service (I’m in Toronto). If you know, can you share? And if you don’t, please let us know when you find out. Thanks.
Thanks for the kudos and the Brain Teaser! I’m assuming the tweezers you have are Tweezermans; that’s the Tweezerman mail-in option?
If you’re talking carbon footprint, you’re right, local is better. And that’s an AWESOME question! I actually don’t know where one might get tweezers sharpened, but I’m looking forward to finding out! Will notify!
Agreed, lady! She does need help with those brows.
Also, to the lady who wants to get her tweezers sharpened: take them to the local skate-sharpening place (Play-it again sports, an ice rink) and they should do it for you if you bat your lashes and ask nicely.
Ooooooh! I hadn’t started researching that bit yet — thanks AGAIN! Have you done that yourself?
